2014– the year of the region

In 2012 affordable housing advocates in Belmont, Lexington, Waltham and Watertown knew they had to try something new to be able to accomplish their goals. That desire resulted in the transformation of Watertown Community Housing into Metro West Collaborative Development, initially serving the four communities. Over the past two years Metro West CD has truly embraced the needs and hopes in Metro West by expanding to include 21 cities and towns. 2014 saw several key accomplishments underscoring the importance of this work:

–          Won a 5-town regional contract to provide housing services to the towns of Bolton, Boxborough, Hudson, Littleton and Stow.

–          Relocated our office to Newton to provide more room for staff and a community meeting/training space.

–          Provided monitoring services to developments nearby in Lincoln, Watertown, Needham and as far away as Danvers, Stoughton and Duxbury.

–          Responded to over 2,000 calls from individuals and families asking for help and guidance.

In the coming year we look forward to:

–          Launching a new home buyer program in Belmont

–          Wrapping up a Housing Production Plan in Boxborough

–          Co-sponsoring a housing development in Natick with Family Promise Metro West

–          Revitalizing empty spaces in Hudson

–          Continuing to support the affordable housing advocates in their efforts to win the hearts and minds of their fellow citizens and help meet the region’s 10% affordable housing goal.
