18 Unit Underway in Norwell!
Metro West CD was recently designated as the developer of a town-owned site in Norwell. In the fall of 2015 the Norwell Community Housing Trust put out a Request for Proposals soliciting responses from for profit and non-profit housing developers for the creation of 18 units of rental housing for seniors on the former Town Police Station site located at 40 River Street. Earlier this spring, Metro West CD was chosen! The project has many hurdles to overcome before a shovel can break ground, but we are very excited to be working with the Town of Norwell on this important community project.
Supporting the Fernald Working Group
The Fernald Center, a state institution for the disabled, has been in the process of being closed by the state for over 10 years. All that time the Fernald Working Group has been diligently sounding the horn of community involvement. The redevelopment of the 190 acre site must include the goals and needs of Waltham community residents. Metro West CD is currently providing support to the Fernald Working Group via meeting facilitation, document drafting, community outreach and website maintenance. We are also supervising a Boston Architectural College intern who has begun knocking on doors in the nearby neighborhoods to gather the names of interest community residents. The Fernald Working Group will be convening a series of planning meetings in the fall. Find out more about their efforts at http://fernaldworkinggroup.org/
Lexington Projects with LexHAB
Metro West CD has been hired by the Lexington Housing Assistance Board (LexHAB) to help them obtain comprehensive permits under the Local Initiative Program for two projects: Fairview Ave. and Busa Farm. Together the two projects will result in 10 units of affordable rental housing in Lexington.
Seven Affordable Units Coming to Weston
Metro West CD is pleased to be helping the Town of Weston with their Warren Avenue Affordable Housing Project, which will create seven units of moderate and middle income housing. Metro West CD and Pinck & Co. teamed up to respond to the Town’s Request for Proposals for project management. Pinck & Co. will provide the project management services and Metro West CD will provide the affordable housing compliance services.
The Project. involves the renovation of two residential properties and the creation of three units in the former Water Department Building. The project is funded with Community Preservation Act funds. The project also represents progress towards the Getting to 10% Campaign that Metro West CD launched in December.
The Weston Affordable Housing Trust members, who have been shepherding the project, are hopeful that the units will be ready for occupancy in the late 2015.
